3) Heat and cold therapy
This treatment is effortless, can be applied at home without a problem, and does not elevate your costs. Heat therapy is appropriate for improving blood flow and is suitable for improving stiffness and joint pain in rheumatoid arthritis. Cold therapy is applied in case of inflammation of the joint and may also improve muscle spasms and reduce the sensation of pain.
Heat and cold therapy can be applied with ice packs, topical sprays, iced water, hot packs, electric mittens, or in a spa. In some physical therapy modalities, patients experience significant improvement by increasing deep body temperature through ultrasonography and other methods.
